At first it sounded like your problem was about polymorph structures, where C++
can be a big help, have a look at the example I attached. But it seems your
problem is not about this...

If I've understood you correctly then I doubt you can find a solution without
changing either your code or your data format - being happy with the current
situation rarely leads to something new or better ;-)
